Steady as she goes

I've made very slow progress on my Wobbly.  I burned through about 30 rows when I first sat down with it, and realized I didn't dig intarsia.  It sat for a good long while, and finally I decided that the only way this was going to be done was by making myself chip away at it.  So now I'm at about Row 57:
P7160012

I'm going to change up the handle design to (hopefully) make it a bit more sturdy, and do the back as random thick-thin stripes.  I will NOT redo this chart again!

The Wobbly Has Landed

Fin_1_1 Felted and finished!! I wrote about this on my blog and added a couple more pics. You can read about my Wobbly experience at http://www.yarnknitreadlit.blogspot.com

It was a fun-fun project! Thank you to the organizers who put this KAL together. I'll continue to check in and see everyone's progress! Blessings, All.  :)

Demise of the Wobbly...

So the Wobbly has given up...or I have given up on my Wobbly...

Poor Wobbly! I just have lost my love for the Wobbly. I don't know why, but I've taken the needles out and decided to retire my Wobbly. I've loved seeing everyone's Wobbly and will continue to check on you all! Maybe I'll do one someday in another yarn.

Sliding Into Second

Side Two is almost complete!! Yaaay, Side Two!! I'm doing a different sort of finishing, which will be easier to show than tell. So, here is the "business side" of SWob2ide Two in all her woobly glory!  :)

Wobbly Circles Side One Done!

Wobbly_tote_side_1_done_2 Well, side one is done!  It took a while and there were breaks from knitting with the kids getting out of school for summer break.  Intarsia is time consuming but fun and I found that I "got into the groove" of twisting the yarn and managing the bobbins the longer I worked on the tote!  I found the perfect place to work...the dining room table!  I can spread out and the bobbins don't get so tangled up...hopefully the project will be done by the time the holidays roll around...hehe!  Onto side two!

I am going to add sides and a handle...any good suggestions for handles?

Progress on my Wobbly

I've been cranking away at my wobbly tote. I got a few more rows done by the pool yesterday.  Check out more details on my blog.

Finished my Wobbly!

Hi everyone. Here's my finished tote. I used Rio de la Plata yarn, a homespun yarn very similar to Manos. This yarn felts with a great nubby texture. It shrunk tremendously, before felting height was 28", finished height about 16.5". The background color is more green, less gold than the photo appears.Wobbly_6

Hello?

Is everybody still knitting on their totes? I don't have much more to show yet so I won't post a pic. My hands have been hurting with this pattern. I think it's the size of the needles. I'm using wooden straights and I think that has something to do with that. But I will persevere a few rows at a time! Hope everyone is doing well!

A little progress...

So I've been working on my tote finally...

I have really been enjoying knitting this. The colors are fun and the pattern is easy! I think that I will knit the back in just the main color or maybe do some striping. I'm using Cascade 220 held double.

Finished!

Wobbly_in_garden2_1

After waiting a week for my Wobbly to dry, I couldn't stand it any longer and had to post my photo of her.  Yep, she's done, albeit still a little damp.  Gotta say I love her fuzzy feltedness.  And she's the perfect size for carrying my knitting projects, so she'll definitely be put to good use as soon as she dries completely, which will hopefully be by tomorrow so I can take her to my knitting group.

I would change a few things follow the directions better if I ever make this project again.  One, I would backstitch or whip stitch the sides together, instead of not reading the directions and mattress stitching them.  The bag looks okay, but the seams are very bulky compared to the backstitching I did on the bottom.  Oops.

Leftover_tiger_lily_1Second, I'd mix up the colors of the circles instead of doing them the same on both sides.  This would alleviate the am-I-going-to-run-out-of-the-orange-before-I'm-done? stress I found myself with on this bag.  Here's a pic of how much of the orange I had left.  Forty inches worth, which sounds like a lot, but in reality was cutting it pretty close for comfort.  Or, I'd use four colors like the patterns says to, instead of only three like I did....

Third, I'd make the handles a little sturdier.  Compared to the size of the bag, I'm concerned that the handles are too flimsy as is, and will tear with the weight of a bag full of stuff.  This cuts down on the usability of the tote, but will probably be fine for carrying the lace shawl I'm getting ready to cast on.

Specs:  Lambs Pride Bulky on size 13 needles.  3 1/2 skeins of main color, various amounts of 3 contrast colors (approx. 1 full skein of the orange, 3/4 skein of the light green, 1/2 skein of the brown).  Prefelting dimensions: 30" tall x 25" top/22" base wide.  After felting dimensions: 21" tall x 16 1/2" top/14" base wide.

Overall, this was a great intro to intarsia.  I'm really glad to now know how this technique is done, and while I'm hesitant to say I'll do much of it, I do like having it in my knitting bag o' tricks.
